Proposed Items - ISTE

ISTE NETS for Teachers were used to organize these list of practices.

  • Numbered items are NETS substandards. Bulleted items are proposed stems.
Planning and Designing Learning Environments
  1. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
    • instructional strategies are based upon student assessment data (Fuchs & Deno)
    • assignments are customized to meet individual needs (Fuchs & Deno, Graham and Perin)
  2. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
  3. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
  4. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
  5. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
Teaching, Learning and the Curriculum
  1. Teachers implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning.
    • use of simulations in math (Wenglinsky)
    • use of simulations in science (Wenglinsky)
    • use of collaborative writing activities (Graham and Perin)
  2. Teachers facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
    • Plans are developed based upon state content standards (XXXX)
  3. Teachers use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
  4. Teachers apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
    • Hands on activities in science & math (Wenglinsky - EPAA articles)
    • Project based learning (Wenglinsky - EPAA articles)
    • Reading - metacognitive activities - explain, predict (Wenglinsky, Pressley).
Assessment and Evaluation
  1. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques
  2. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning
    • Assessments tools that report student progress are used to determine subsequent instruction (Spicuza & Yssledyke)
    • Writing activities are matched to student needs (Graham & Perin)
  3. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity
